Fordite (AKA Detroit Agate or Motor Agate) is not really a stone at all, but it is the decades-long accumulation of leftover automobile enamel paint as cars went through the assembly line. In the 1940s, workers began saving the accumulated colorful "rock" and it was discovered that it could be cut and polished into "gemstones". Fordite is becoming a rarer and rarer material since automobiles no longer use the technique that resulted in leftover paint.
